SEO Terms You Should Know

If you have a blog or website, or if you work with anything related to the Internet, you’ll certainly need to know a bit about search engine optimization (SEO). SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization and simply refers to the process of making your domain name and website more visible in Search Engines . A good way to get started is to familiarize yourself with the most common SEO terms, and below you’ll find 10 of them.

SEO IMAGE

1.Search Engine Marketing (SEM)
Search Engine Marketing (SEM) involves marketing services or products via search engines. SEM is divided into two main pillars: SEO and PPC. SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization, and it is the practice of optimizing websites to make their pages appear in the organic search results. PPC stands for Pay-Per-Click, and it is the practice of purchasing clicks from search engines. The clicks come from sponsored listings in the search results.

2. Backlink
Links originating from one website and pointing to another website or web page is called backlink. Search Engines see this as a sign that your site must have some useful information as other people and websites are referring to it.

3. Crawler
Also called search bot or spider, it’s a computer program that browses the web on behalf of search engines. The crawler will visit your site and analyse its content. They visit your site numerous times and will continue to visit as you make changes and add new content. This is how Search Engines keep their results relevant and up to date.

4. SERP
Stands for Search Engine Results Page. It’s basically the page you’ll get when you search for a specific keyword on Google or on other search engines. The amount of search traffic your website will receive depends on the rankings it will have inside the SERPs.

5. Title Tag
The title tag is literally the title of a web page, and it’s one of the most important factors inside Google’s search algorithm. It defines the blue link text that you click on in a search result. It also appears in the top of your browser window or tab. Search Engines use the title tag to define what your website is about.

6. Meta Tags
These are supplementary to your title tag. You can have a META description, which briefly describes what the page is about. The META description you set is often seen below the clickable link to your website in the SERPs as a summary. You can also set META keywords to let Search Engines know what terms should be relevant to the page.

7. Keywords
Keywords are those words which is used by search engines to determine the topic of a given web page. Keywords should be used on your site to ensure Search Engines can recognize what that page is about and therefore show that page to the correct searchers.

8. Pagerank

PageRank is an algorithm that Google uses to estimate the relative important of pages around the web. The higher the Pagerank the better. However, do not take this measurement as gospel. There are some low PR sites with great search visibility and some high PR sites with low visibility.

9. Sitemap
A sitemap is just what it sounds like. A map of your site that users and Search Engines can use to navigate your site more easily. It’s great to have a sitemap as it can help Search Engines identify all the pages on your site, some of which otherwise may not have been visited by the crawler.

10. Robots.txt
This is nothing more than a file, placed in the root of the domain, that is used to inform search bots about the structure of the website. For instance, via the robots.txt file it’s possible to block specific search robots and to restrict the access to specific folders of section inside the website.

How do GOOGLE.COM earn money?

Today whenever you are trying to search for something, the first thing that comes to mind is ‘Google  it’. Google has provided Internet users with loads of valuable products and facilities. The most popular of these are the following.

  •     Google Search Engine
  •     Gmail
  •     Youtube
  •     Orkut
  •     Google Adsense
  •     Google Adwords
  •     Blogger
  •     Google Maps
  •     Google Earth
  •     Google News
  •     Google Analytics
  •     Android (operating system)

Now in this post I will try to open the close files of HOW actually google earns money.

1.      Advertising

Google.com makes most of its money from paid advertising. When you do a search on Google.com you’ll often see listings at the very top and on the right side. Google.com charges money for those listings. Every time someone clicks on those links, they company that is listed gets charged. The amount varies depending on the competition for that particular key phrase that was searched. Key phrases can be as low as five cents per click, whereas others can be ten dollars or more per click.

But Google doesn’t get to keep all of that money — it pays out a bunch each quarter to publishers that run Google’s AdSense ads on their sites or in their mobile apps. That’s called “traffic acquisition costs,” or TAC. Last quarter, TAC was about $2.2 billion, or 24% of total gross ad sales.

Specifically, Google says it paid out $1.8 billion last quarter to AdSense partners, and another $400 million to “certain distribution partners and others who direct traffic to our website.”

2.      No production cost
Google doesn’t sell any tangible product and that’s the beauty of their business. They sell something that doesn’t really exist. They really sell traffic. It mostly comes down to this: They get paid for sending traffic to other websites. That’s why Google seems to be everywhere now: They have to show substantial growth to their stakeholders and to do that they have to drive more and more traffic to provide more and more advertisement. That’s also the reason they’ll be jumping in the cell phone industry, so they can make a bit of money from all the web traffic that next generation cell phones are going to drive in the next couple of years.

Expect to see Google around more and more in the next couple of years…

3.      Google Adsense:
This is an advertising program which was started by Google where every one of Google users can make money online. Website owners and bloggers are the ones who gain the most from this program. It depends on the amount of traffic that your website or blog generates. Advertisers pay Google some amount of money, every time someone clicks on their link as it helps them to increase their various businesses. Google also pays website and blog owners some revenue for every click on their Ad sense which is present on your blog/website. Google keeps part of the revenue that they earn in the process and pay remaining amount to the publishers.

4.     Gmail:

When we sign in to our mail accounts on Gmail which is probably the most popular at this point in time, we are shown sponsored links on our accounts. And these links are always relevant to the keywords of the mails that we receive.

5.     Android:
Google makes money (and justifies giving away the OS) by licensing the Google Apps that come on most Android phones (but not all). Apps like Gmail, the Android Market, Google Search, and others come in something called GAPPS. The Market is really where Google is interested. Sure, the other GAPPS add value to the phone (hence why carriers license their inclusion on Android-powered phones), but Google is making money with every app sold through the Market. Even free apps make Google money. Developers have to pay to have an account to list their apps under. Even ad-sponsored apps are likely using Google Mobile Ads, so Google’s getting revenue from that source as well.

Step 4: Download and unzip this file – website.zip – somewhere on your desktop. It contains a basic website with some HTML pages, images and CSS that we’ll try to host with Google App Engine.

Step 5: Open the app.yaml file with notepad and replace the word ‘labnol’ with the application identifier that you created in Step 2 above. Save the changes.

Step 6: Finally it’s time to deploy /upload our website to Google App Engine. Open the Google App Engine Launcher program from the Start Menu, choose File –> Add Existing Application and browse to the folder where you unzipped the website.

Hit the deploy button, input your Google Account credentials and within seconds, your website should become available online at abc.appspot.com where abc is your unique app identifier. Trick to Open Multiple Google Talk Accounts

Gmail is the Big daddy of all the email services like yahoomail, hotmail, AOL etc .Usually people create multiple Gmail accounts to isolate their professional and personal life. By default, Google does not allow its users to open multiple instances of Google talk or Gmail accounts simultaneously. By Using this trick you can run multiple instances of Google Talk. I have tested it on windows 7 and it should also work on windows XP and Vista.

Trick to Open Multiple Google Talk Account

  • Create a Shortcut of Gtalk on the desktop
  • Now Right Click on it and select Properties.

C:Program FilesGoogleGoogle Talk.exe /nomutex

  • Select Ok button.
  • Now Double Click on Gtalk shortcut to open new instance. You can open any number of instances by clicking on the icon over and again

Here is the Screencast to Open Multiple Google Talk Account

Trick to Access Multiple GMAIL Accounts in Same Browser

If you’re tired of signing in and out, or opening up new browsers in order to check all of your accounts at the same time, you can use multiple sign-in. With multiple sign-in, you’re able to access different Google products with up to 10 accounts using tabs in the same browser. Multiple sign-in is automatically enabled for all Google Accounts.

Your default account

If you use multiple sign-in, the first account you use to sign in during that browser session will be your default account for the rest of that session. If you visit other Google products that don’t support multiple accounts after you’ve signed in, you will automatically sign in to your default account for that product. If you sign out of any Google product while signed in to any account, you will be signed out of all your Google Accounts at once.

To sign in to additional accounts:

  • Sign in to a product that supports multiple sign-in, using an account that has multiple sign-in enabled.
  • Click your name or email address at the top of the page.
  • Select Add account from the drop-down menu.

  • On the page that opens, enter the email address and password for another account you wish to access, and click Sign in.
Once you’re signed in to more than one account in the same browser, you can easily switch accounts in the same tab. Just click your name or email address at the top and click on the email address you’d like to sign in to.

Products with multiple sign-in

You can use multiple sign-in with the following desktop versions of these Google products:

  • Alerts
  • Calendar
  • Code
  • Docs (Google Apps accounts only)
  • Finance
  • Gmail
  • Google+
  • Google Moderator
  • Groups
  • iGoogle
  • Maps
  • News
  • Profiles
  • Reader
  • Sites
  • Voice
  • Web Search
  • YouTube
Features of Gmail that depend on other Google products won’t work with any additional accounts you sign in to. For example, the Calendar Gadget in Gmail labs won’t work with additional accounts because the Calendar Gadget does not yet support multiple accounts.

Experience with Google on 2012

Google is one of the indispensable search engines in the present scenario. It occupies the major role for most of SEO experts. Moreover, it offers great benefits for every person, website owners and the common day-to-day viewers. Frankly speaking, do not need to go for a depression test, rather chill out for here is some really awesome experience of Google.

Google + an effective networking site

Google has made some changes from the start of 2012, while mainly the looks and its effective performance are noted in recent months. Social networking sites frame an important role for marketing. If you are an avid blogger or an SEO expert make sure to use networking sites that helps in reaching the clients directly. The recent Google +, a networking site from Google is been used as a strong SEO tool by every visitors and bloggers.
Here sharing some of the experiences with using Google 2012 and its recent launch Google +.

Back links and Google +

At the start of this year, I created three blogs on WordPress. All the three blogs were peak rank domains based on different functions. The niches were actually based on games, productivity and careers.
I managed to create efficient back links for the first two niches games and productivity, (i.e.)

I concentrated in promoting at an equal level for both the sites. When working with contentupdates one of the sites from the two was regularly updated than the other.
Google + an effective SEO tool
I made it a point to use social marketing for the last site (careers), which I didn’t focus much on link building or content marketing. I used some of popular networking sites like Google +, Facebook, Twitter for the promotions. I was able to build my site as well I was getting valuable comments, mentions from the networking people.
The result was truly surprising, which I found the site that is promoted using Google +, via social media has gained high web traffic than the other two blogs. It was the one that I spend very less time but has managed to gain in front at search traffic.
Advantages of Google web master tool
While posting blogs or searching at Google search engine you will notice a +1 widget. This helps to increase your search rankings and that is one of easy ways to reach the targeted clients. You can also avoid spam posts or links by watching this +1 widget.

Relevant link building

I was able to learn another fact about marketing in recent Google version that is linking to relevant sources will prove beneficial results in search rankings. Link building with inappropriate sources or contents will lose its value in short time. It is better you can start link building to proper sources as per your content.

Social media and SEO

Though content writing, press releases and submissions, back links frame an important role in SEO social media also play an equal part that has to be considered for effective marketing. Google +, one of the latest social networking sites has many advantages, which every SEO expert can make complete use of it.
